Wayne Amateur Radio Club will be participating in the 2022 Winter Field Day contest/exercise. Winter field day is a contest but the original intent of it is an opportunity for amateur radio operators to practice their emergency communications in a less-than-ideal environment.
“Winter Field Day Association (WFDA) is a dedicated group of Amateur Radio Operators who believe that emergency communications in a winter environment is just as important as the preparations and practice that is done each summer but with some additional unique operational concerns.”
For this event WARC will be setting up a 3I station. That is a station consisting of 3 transceivers, in an indoor location that is not usually setup for amateur operations. The three transceivers will go into a triplexer. The triplexer will then feed the signals from all 3 radio into an inverted “V” off center fed dipole. This allows us to use only one feedline and add some protection to the radios themselves.
We welcome all individuals to join us at the comm center. You do not have to be a member of WARC or hold an amateur license to participate at our event. We will have extra class licensed operators available as control operators. This will allow any license class, or an unlicensed individual, to operate on any frequency allocated to amateur radio.
The contest starts at 2pm on Saturday January 29th and goes until 2 pm on Sunday January 30th. We will be setting up on the friday before the contest no earlier than 2pm and can use available help. We will be operating from the Com Center. It is located at the intersection of Oldman road and Burbank Road in Wooster.
