2024 Skywarn Spotter Training

The 2024 Wayne County Skywarn spotter training is right around the corner. This year the training will be held at Wayne County Public Library Main Branch on April 16th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The training is open to anyone interested but they do ask that you register which can be done here. The spotter training is conducted by the National Weather Service and is a great opportunity learn about severe weather and what to watch for.

What is Skywarn?

The Skywarn spotter program is a nationwide program of volunteers trained by the National Weather Service to recognize and report significant weather. The program is open to anyone that wants to participate. Amateur radio operators have played a big role in the Skywarn spotter program for many years and still does today. During severe weather, a Skywarn net will be activated on our 147.21 repeater. The net control will take severe weather reports from local stations then relay any reports on to the National Weather Service which meets criteria set by the NWS.
