WOOSTER – John F. Lilburn, 90 of Wooster passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at West View Healthy Living surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 22, 1930 in Swampscott, MA the son of Charles D. and Margaret Christie Lilburn.  He married Caroline N. Snell on February 11, 1961.  She survives.

John was a 1953 Mechanical Engineering graduate of Tufts University and GE Master’s Program.  John  was a Licensed Profssional Engineer in eight states and an expert witness in court trials for insurance companies.  He was a member of the Wooster United Methodist Church.  He had his pilot’s license and loved flying, sailing on his sailboat “Scotch Mist” and sailing the Chesapeake Bay and Tampa Bay, and loved traveling (Bermuda a favorite) and visits to England and Scotland.

He was a volunteer EMT in Pennsylvania and Florida, a volunteer for the Coast Guard in Tampa and did waterfront investigations.  John was also a long-time volunteer at Wooster Community Hospital and a long-time member of the Wooster Amateur Radio Club.

John had previously lived in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Florida, before moving to Wooster in 2006 to be near family.  He was a devoted family man, loved his grandchildren (and the family dog, Riley) and was a man with many friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Caroline, of 60 years, is a son Michael (Nancy) Lilburn of Wooster; granddaughter Allyson (Jeremy) of Cincinnati and grandsons Ian and David both of Wooster and cousins in Dundee, Scotland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no calling hours and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
